At Tilmar, we are often asked whether we can also offer an elegant outdoor solution for cooktop extraction.
Extraction to the outside
The extraction from the kitchen is routed through the floor, via the crawl space, to the outside. For the outdoor solution, two variants are possible: one at ground level and one above ground level.
The “T175 koekoek” ventilation unit offers a solution at ground level. By placing the unit on the exterior facade, with the top edge aligned with ground level, the wall penetration for air supply or exhaust can be made below ground level. The duct then discharges at the exterior into the T175 koekoek.
The T175 koekoek is 43.5 cm deep and stackable, making it possible to provide ventilation at any desired depth. For greater height differences, two or more units can be placed on top of each other — the system can handle any depth, provided it remains above groundwater level. The T175 koekoek is suitable for pipes up to Ø160 mm. The back side of the unit is completely open, allowing a duct to be connected at any height and at any angle to the wall.
The “T177-160 Ross ventilation shaft” is a solution for both air supply and exhaust. Its semi-circular design appeals to both architects and building owners.
The plastic ventilation shaft provides excellent protection against rainwater as the outlet is positioned well above ground level. The system length is flexible thanks to vertical extension pieces of 450 mm, which can also be cut to size, allowing any intermediate height. A complete set includes one extension piece as standard, resulting in a standard height of approx. 1 m. Additional extensions are available separately. As with the T175, the T177-160 set must also remain above groundwater level.
For connection to existing systems or embedded pipes already exiting the exterior wall, an adapter is available. The dark grey adapter fits pipes with an outer diameter of Ø160 mm. The adapter replaces the standard elbow piece and is preferably mounted below ground level. In this situation, a full set is not required — just the separate parts: a cap, adapter, and optionally an extension piece.
Condensation
Cooking produces warm, moist air. When this mixes with cold air, condensation forms on the cold surface. This typically occurs in the duct below ground level. Both our T175 and T177-160 complete sets are equipped with a condensate drain.
Prevent draughts in the kitchen
The exhaust of any kitchen extractor is an open connection to the outside air. When not in use, unwanted airflow may occur into the kitchen instead of out. This can easily be prevented by installing our TSK backdraft damper (usually Ø150 mm or Ø160 mm) in the horizontal ductwork.
