Solutions to prevent blockages and damage on and around the roof

Clogging in the rainwater drainage system or gutter? Water overflowing the edge, localized corrosion of zinc gutters, additional maintenance, and increased cleaning risks are often the result. Leaves, gravel, dirt, and birds nesting on and around the roof regularly cause these issues. With the right roofing products, these problems can be easily prevented. Solutions such as gutter brushes, leaf guards, and wire grates block debris while allowing rainwater to flow freely.

Bladex roofing products from Tilmar offer various solutions, all with the same goal:

  • keeping rainwater drains (HWA) and gutters clear
  • preventing blockages caused by leaves, dirt, or nesting material
  • ensuring consistently effective water drainage
  • reducing maintenance and cleaning efforts
  • extending the lifespan of gutters and drainage systems
  • suitable for both new construction and renovation

The most suitable solution depends on the type of roof, the position of the drainage, and the surrounding environment. Each product requires periodic inspection and cleaning to a greater or lesser extent.

Bladex leaf guard

The Bladex plastic leaf guard is made of durable black plastic. Its domed design prevents leaves and debris from entering the drain. The grate fits all roof outlets with a diameter of ø75–125 mm, making it a simple and reliable choice for standard applications.

Bladex Spring Leaf Guard

The Bladex spring leaf guard is a better and more durable alternative to a traditional dome grate. The spring leaf guard from Tilmar is a flexible, spiral-shaped leaf guard made of galvanized steel. Thanks to its spring design, it can be inserted into the drain with a clamping, screw-like fit. The use of steel makes it less susceptible to damage or deformation caused by birds.

The spring leaf guard can be used in virtually any gutter shape and is suitable for internal outlets with diameters of ø60–90 mm, ø80–110 mm, and ø100–130 mm.

Bladex Tile Leaf Guard

On flat roofs, blockages are often caused by leaves or gravel accumulating directly in or around the outlet. The Bladex tile leaf guard provides an effective solution for maintaining proper water flow. By using this universal leaf guard with tile support, rainwater drainage on flat roofs is optimally ensured, as leaves are effectively kept away from the outlet.

The tile leaf guard has a height of 65 mm and is finished in black. The product is robust thanks to the use of temperature-resistant and impact-resistant PP plastic.

Key features:

  • suitable for any flat roof and universally applicable, including at right-angled or sloped roof edges and for outlets positioned in the middle of the roof
  • a perimeter of over 1.2 meters ensures fast water drainage under all conditions
  • perfectly stable due to extra-large feet all around, equipped with openings for water drainage to prevent damage from freezing
  • secure placement using a standard 30×30 cm paving tile (not included)
  • compact and stackable, easy to separate from the stack
  • suitable for roof upstands of 90° or 45°

Thanks to its smart design, water drainage continues to function optimally even during heavy rainfall.

Bladex GutterDrain Leaf Guard

The Bladex GutterDrain leaf guard is a proven solution for keeping gutters free of leaves along their entire length over the long term. The GutterDrain is a gutter protector made of plastic mesh that is slit lengthwise. The elements are simply placed in sequence inside the gutter. Leaves that land on the GutterDrain dry out and are blown away, allowing rainwater to flow unobstructed դեպի the gutter outlet.

The GutterDrain can be used in various gutter types and widths. The distance between the roof tiles and the gutter edge, combined with the depth of the gutter, determines the correct type of GutterDrain. By distributing the rainwater more evenly, localized corrosion of zinc gutters is reduced.

Material
The GutterDrain is made of black polyethylene (HDPE). This material consists of a combination of new and recycled raw materials, making the GutterDrain recyclable and environmentally friendly. The black coloring provides UV resistance and high durability.
Its durability has been proven over the past 20 years, which allows a 10-year durability warranty to be offered.

Installation
Thanks to the slit on the underside, the GutterDrain can be compressed and placed into the gutter. The factory-applied tension ensures it clamps itself securely in place. The elements should extend slightly above the gutter edge. To prevent birds from nesting in the elements, the ends should be cut and bent inward. The elements can easily be cut to size using a knife or scissors. The gutter outlet must always be cut out of the element, and any existing dome grates should be removed. In situations where the GutterDrain cannot secure itself by clamping, it can be fixed in an alternative way.

Bladex Gutter Brush

In addition to the GutterDrain, Tilmar also offers gutter brushes as a solution to keep gutters free of leaves. The Bladex gutter brush is a simple and flexible alternative to the GutterDrain. Leaves remain on top of the brush, where they can dry and then be blown away, allowing the gutter to maintain its drainage function.

The gutter brush has a diameter of 120 mm and a length of 1 meter. The sections can be easily connected, making it simple to cover longer lengths. The bristles are made of thick, durable plastic and are attached to a galvanized steel wire core.

The gutter brush is easy to install, remove for maintenance, and clean. It also has a preventive effect against birds and pests, as it discourages nesting in the gutter. In addition, the brush can be combined with Ventistrip stainless steel ventilation profiles and the VentiBrush pestcontrol brush for a complete solution around the roof and gutter.
