Unwanted intruders such as rats, mice, martens, bees, and wasps can easily find their way into buildings when openings in façades, mortar joints, cavities in cavity walls, roof edges, or crawl spaces are insufficiently protected. This can lead to nuisance, structural damage, and costly remedial measures afterwards. Post-intervention often requires pest control, while this can easily be prevented with the right protective solutions.
At Tilmar, the focus is not on controlling or exterminating pests, but on preventing them from entering areas where they do not belong. The key principle is that ventilation must always remain functional. Ventilated pest-proofing therefore forms an essential part of a sustainable building envelope, keeping animals out without compromising ventilation performance or the appearance of the façade.
The following products are part of Tilmar’s pest-proofing range:
The cavity wall is a common entry point for pests. Tilmar offers several suitable solutions for ventilated pest-proofing in cavity walls:
The SpouwSafe stainless steel weep vent has been developed as a solution for renovation and installation in open vertical joints. The grille is placed in the opening between bricks and prevents pests from entering while maintaining the necessary ventilation of the cavity. The SpouwSafe is easy to install without tools, fits joints from 5 to 25 mm wide, and adapts to irregular joints thanks to its flexible design. The grille clamps itself into the joint and can easily be cut to size with metal shears. This makes SpouwSafe a universal solution for enhancing façade aesthetics while protecting the cavity against pests.
The SpouwSafe retrofit weep vent in stainless steel can be combined with the RenoFix stainless steel renovation grille, allowing existing weep holes to be closed in a pest-proof yet permanently ventilated manner while improving the façade appearance.
The FlexiGrille stainless steel flexible slot vent prevents debris and small animals from entering, while keeping ventilation slots and movement joints open for proper structural ventilation.
The FlexiGrille is an effective and aesthetically responsible solution for preventing the ingress of debris and small animals, while horizontal and vertical ventilation slots and expansion joints remain open for ventilation. The slot ventilator is easy to install by clamping the strong stainless steel spring profile into openings of 5 to 25 mm.
Thanks to its flexibility, the grille can easily be cut to size and applied in short or long slots, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. It also adapts well to irregular or uneven openings, ensuring a neat and clean finish. This makes it suitable for both renovation and new construction. If desired, the grille can be installed in reverse, making it virtually invisible.
Stainless steel ventilation strips ensure proper structural ventilation while providing durable pest protection. Rodents such as mice, rats, and martens cannot gnaw through the robust stainless steel profile, while the fine mesh structure also keeps insects out. This prevents pests of all sizes from entering the structure.
The ventilation strips can be used in various ventilation openings in façades and roofs. Thanks to the black coating, they can be installed discreetly and contribute to a clean and uniform façade appearance.
Ventilation openings, such as crawl space and façade ventilation openings, also form vulnerable entry points for pests. For this purpose, Tilmar offers the following grilles:
The RenoFix stainless steel renovation grilles are designed for repairing damaged façades. They replace broken or vulnerable plastic crawl space ventilation grilles from standard floor ventilation ducts or twin ducts, without the need for invasive demolition work. RenoFix replaces these vulnerable plastic grilles with a durable and vandal-resistant stainless steel (RVS 304) renovation grille.
Building regulations require a maximum opening width of 10 mm in façades to prevent the entry of rats and mice; RenoFix complies with this through openings of 10 × 5 mm. At the same time, the original net airflow capacity of 24 cm² is fully maintained, ensuring proper ventilation of the crawl space. The grilles combine ventilation with strong pest protection and also improve the appearance of the façade.
To protect existing ventilation openings against pests, stainless steel surface-mounted ventilation grilles—also referred to as pest-proof grilles—can be used. They are suitable for situations where insects and larger animals must be kept out, without invasive demolition work.
The grilles are made of stainless steel (RVS 304) with a material thickness of 1 mm and are fitted with stainless steel insect mesh, ensuring that ventilation is maintained. Thanks to Ø5 mm mounting holes, the grilles can be easily fixed onto existing surfaces.
The robust and attractively designed stainless steel surface-mounted grilles GevelFix and GevelFix XL can be installed over existing façade openings. They fit many existing openings and can replace damaged or unattractive crawl space ventilation grilles.
These are often openings where aluminium or plastic grilles were previously installed, which may have been lost or damaged over time. This results in a cluttered façade appearance and easy access for dirt and pests. Pests such as rats and mice are effectively kept out.
Roofs and roof edges are sensitive to nesting and intrusion by animals, particularly birds and rodents. Without proper protection, this can lead to blockages and damage to structures. For these applications, Tilmar offers several solutions that prevent pests and protect constructions:
The VentiStrip stainless steel ventilation profiles are developed for situations where a structure must be well ventilated while keeping pests out. Stainless steel profiles are more durable than plastic alternatives: pests cannot gnaw through them, and stainless steel does not become brittle over time. The 3 mm slots prevent pest entry while maintaining ventilation.
The profiles are supplied in 1-metre lengths, are easy to handle, and simple to cut to size. Available in flat (80 mm) and various folded shapes (30×50 mm and 40×40 mm).
For ventilation and protection against birds and small animals, Tilmar offers the VentiStrip XL-75 stainless steel bird guard, the VentiStrip metal bird guard (galvanised steel), and plastic bird guards.
They are suitable for installation under all types of roof tiles, roofs, and corrugated sheets. In addition to roofing applications, they are also highly effective behind façade cladding. All versions can be fixed in front of, behind, or between battens, boards, and panels—by nailing, screwing, clamping, or bonding—making them suitable for both new construction and renovation.
The VentiStrip XL-75 stands out due to its high-quality stainless steel and extended spring length of 75 mm, allowing effective sealing of most openings under roof tiles, solar panels, and façade elements. Stainless steel provides a durable and nearly impenetrable barrier for small rodents. The stainless steel and metal versions are especially suitable for robust, long-lasting, rodent-resistant applications. The plastic version offers a cost-effective solution for keeping out birds and small animals.
Corrugated sheet profiles, also known as closure strips, prevent birds and small animals from entering beneath corrugated roofs. They are variants of bird guards and are used under corrugated sheets in various buildings.
Tilmar offers several versions. Standard profiles 51/177 and B6 are ventilating and pest-proof thanks to small perforations (Ø4.2 mm), made of sendzimir galvanised steel. Aluminium versions are also available in both ventilated and closed types.
All variants offer long service life and are UV-resistant. Installation is simple by screwing or bonding, with pre-drilled holes for easy fixing. Suitable for many common corrugated sheets; customisation and alternative profiles or colours are available on request.
The VentiBrush is a solution for preventing pests such as martens and birds from entering under tiled roofs or other spaces. On tiled roofs, it is fixed behind the first batten. Available in diameters of 100, 150, and 200 mm, with 1-metre sections that can easily be connected.
Combined with gutter brushes or VentiStrip bird guards, it creates a strong ventilating barrier that prevents nesting. The 150 and 200 mm versions are also suitable for use under solar panels. Made of black plastic, it is a cost-effective preventive solution. The brush can easily be removed and reinstalled for maintenance access.
The PointFlex stainless steel anti-climb strip prevents unwanted access via walls, fences, roof edges, and pipes. Its combination of material, profile shape, and double rows of spikes makes it flexible during installation but rigid and difficult to pass once installed.
It can be shaped to flat, round, or angled surfaces and installed by screwing or bonding. Maintenance-free, easy to cut to size, and retains its appearance and deterrent function over time.
Made of 1.5 mm stainless steel (304 or 316), with slotted holes for easy installation. Both sides feature double staggered spikes of approx. 65 mm, forming a continuous and effective anti-climb barrier when installed in sequence.
